چکیده

A settlement analysis has been carried out for several sectors of a rail station yard improved with prefabricated vertical drains (PVD) in Istanbul, Turkey, that exhibited prolonged consolidation beyond the predicted values certain treated zone. Final and End Primary (EOP) times have estimated theoretically as well using Asaoka graphical procedure. The compliance settlement-time curves in-situ measurements solution investigated. geotechnical model was developed finite element three-dimensional analyses. obtained by varying horizontal-vertical permeability coefficient ratio (kh/kv) compared, kh/kv corresponding to 90% degree computed all sectors. effect drain spacing (sdrain) length (Ldrain) on rate examined each sector, keeping specified ratios constant. 95% (t95) calculated theoretical compared measurements. Calculated t95‘s also their (Ldrain). Additionally, required intervals sdrain Ldrain t95 times.

Three-Dimensional Analysis of Soft Soil Consolidation improved by Prefabricated Vertical Drains

A system of prefabricated vertical drains (PVDs) with a surcharge load is an effective method for accelerating soil consolidation by promoting radial flow. This study presents a three-dimensional (3D) finite element model for soft soil improved by a single drain. In the finite element analysis, the actual rectangular PVD cross-section is considered, and the equivalent drain diameter is then bac...

Improving Engineering Properties of Soft Soil Using Preloading and Prefabricated Vertical Drains

Preloading and Prefabricated Vertical Drains (PVD) is a ground improvement technique used to increase the consolidation process of clayey soils by means of shortening the drainage path. This paper discusses a case study of a road construction where a part of road alignment goes through a low laying water logged area. Primary consolidation of soft clay will continue for longer period of time aft...

Nonlinear analysis for a single vertical drain including the effects of preloading considering the compressibility and permeability of the soil

In this paper, the free strain radial consolidation theory incorporating the changes of compressibility and permeability of the soil with the change in effective stress via time dependent surcharge preloading is presented. In contrast to the conventional analysis, the current study highlights the nonlinear characteristics of the soil during the consolidation process. A comparison of the nonline...
